I began by leading a series of workshops to define who the users of the website are in order to to design experiences that meet their needs and the needs of the organisation. These workshops were illuminating, and have been useful beyond the website project.
This decision to put the user experience at the heart of the redesign led to a complete overhaul of the information architecture, the way that content is labelled and organised. For example, I was able to narrow down the types of content to news articles, events, press releases, publications and job vacancies, from the 11 vaguely defined types of content that existed before.
Finally, I wrote and produced a comprehensive ECVC Website Guidelines document, which brings together editorial, visual and technical guidelines to ensure the integrity of the website in future.
